Colorado is famous for its mountains, wildlife … and potatoes! From the San Luis Valley to the northeastern plains, our state grows millions of pounds of spuds every year. Whether you like them baked, mashed, or made into fries, potatoes are an important part of Colorado agriculture. Check out these fun facts to learn more about this amazing crop grown right here in our state!
Spuds Across the State – Potatoes are grown in several parts of Colorado! The San Luis Valley is the biggest growing region, but farmers also grow potatoes in the northeastern counties like Weld, Morgan, and Yuma.
San Luis Valley Superstar – The San Luis Valley in southern Colorado is the second largest fresh potato producing region in the entire country.
High-Altitude Spuds – Potatoes in Colorado are grown at high elevations— often more than 7,500 feet above sea level!
