The length of extension will be determined by the programme manager and would normally be one week. In exceptional circumstances it is possible that a longer extension may be given until the next retrieval date. MITIGATING CIRCUMSTANCES
Mitigation relates to unanticipated circumstances which have seriously affected your ability to study and academic performance. It is possible to request that consideration be given to circumstances which may have affected your performance. If you think there have been circumstances or events that may affect your study you should submit a mitigation form, this may not be used in the event of a pass grade but should be on record in the event of appeal.
? ?
Circumstances which have seriously affected your performance will be passed to the Examinations Board for consideration. Circumstances should be reported in advance or at the time of assignment submissions on the mitigating circumstances form available at appendix B and may not be submitted retrospectively. Give brief and precise information about the circumstances and how these circumstances impacted on your performance. It is not sufficient to outline the circumstances that occurred – the link between your circumstances and your performance must be clearly stated. Supporting documentary evidence which relates clearly to the period during which your performance was adversely affected is required e.g. letters from solicitors or local councils; hospital appointment cards; medical certificates; statements from health / social care professionals are examples of acceptable evidence. The type of circumstance that may be considered include; o Serious or prolonged illness (the student or a member of immediate family); o Bereavement; social and domestic circumstances
