Undergraduate Programme Handbook Aug 2013 WELCOME Welcome to the University of Dundee. The University is one of 12 Scottish Universities and has a student population of approximately 17,000. Whether you are a student studying ‘on’ or ‘off’ campus you are now a valuable part of the University and we hope your learning experience will be enjoyable and successful, both personally and professionally. By participating in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) / Midwifery (BScM) / Health Studies (BScHS) degree, you have become part of a very special global community of healthcare professionals working to enhance their professional qualifications. These degrees bring together healthcare professionals from many diverse countries including the UK, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, West Indies and the USA. A distinctive characteristic of design and delivery of the degree is that students have the opportunity to relate each module of study to their local situation and practice, wherever they are studying in the world. Contact with your fellow students can be an enjoyable and rewarding aspect of your studies and this is encouraged through the use of our online teaching resources and discussion boards. If you have previously engaged in part-time study you will already be aware of the challenges of coping with study amidst the competing demands of commitments to work and family. Irrespective of where you are in the world, you will find post registration study to be rewarding but also demanding – we are here to help you cope with the demands. The many support structures built into the design and delivery of these programmes are explained fully in this handbook. I and the rest of the team extend a very warm welcome to you and look forward to helping you to achieve your goal in completing the BScN / BScM or BScHS degree. We wish you every success.
