Postgraduate Master’ s loans
A Master’ s loan from Student Finance England is non-means-tested and paid directly to you. You can use it towards tuition fees, living costs and other course costs. Borrow as much as you need, up to £ 12,858 *. You’ ll start repaying your loan after your course, once your annual income is over £ 21,000 *. And repayments can be as little as £ 5 a month, depending on how much you earn.

Scholarships and bursaries
You can use scholarships and bursaries to fund some or all of your course fees and / or living costs.
• 20 % discount for University of Portsmouth alumni on most courses
• Sport scholarships for high performing student-athletes
• 30 % discount if you or a parent work at the University
• Fee reductions for students from the EU and some international students

Disabled Students’ Allowance( DSA)
DSA is available if you have a disability, mental health issue or long-term illness. It can help with travel costs, fund specialist equipment like a computer, or pay for a non-medical helper to assist with your academic needs.
If you claimed DSA on your undergraduate course, you’ ll need to reclaim it for your Master’ s study.

Financial support for students with dependants
If you’ re supporting children or a dependent adult, you could be entitled to some financial help. You can apply for Universal Credit( UC) as a full-time student if at least one of the following applies to you:
• you’ re a lone parent( including foster parent)
• you’ re living as a couple and your partner is also a student, and you have at least one dependent child
• you’ re getting Personal Independence Payment or Disability Living Allowance
• you’ re making a joint claim with a non-student partner who is eligible for UC in their own right

How can I apply?
If your course is eligible( most are), simply search and apply online through Student Finance England. Different funding for postgraduate study is available to students from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

PGCE funding
Loans
When you choose to study a PGCE, you can apply for the same student funding as an undergraduate student. This might include a tuition fee loan and a maintenance loan.

When do I repay?
After finishing your course, you’ ll start to repay your loan at six per cent of any annual income over £ 21,000 *, alongside any undergraduate loans.

Bursaries
If you’ re training to teach, the Department for Education currently offers training bursaries of up to £ 29,000 *, depending on your subject specialism.
