I am a pharmacist by qualification and a water researcher by passion. When I met my supervisor Dr Alice Chuah during a journal club meeting at Monash, she invited me to join her research project on rural water transformation. Without her and Monash’ s Graduate Research Merit Scholarship, this journey wouldn’ t have been possible for me. I am very grateful that I was given this opportunity.”
DR GEETHA MANIAM
Doctor of Philosophy
Geetha wants to change the world. While statistics show that around 91 % of the rural population has access to safe drinking water, she hasn’ t forgotten the remaining 9 %. Geetha is working on developing an easy-to-use, biodegradable water treatment membrane technology to produce clean water in the homes of vulnerable communities in remote areas. She is also integrating water education into the project so that our youth is empowered to continue advocating for water sustainability.
Geetha and Dr Chuah are lead authors of a 2024 water literacy report,‘ What can we do more to promote water literacy in Malaysia?’ in collaboration with WWF Malaysia and Watered Association.
