For his contribution to science, he was awarded the President of Pakistan’s Medal of Excellence in 2006. Several of the novel male-specific markers that were identified during his studies on the Pakistani population are now routinely used in forensic DNA identification. He’s currently studying the ageing population in Sunway City and the genetic variation in immune responses to intestinal parasites in the Orang Asli. 36 POSTGRADUATE PROSPECTUS 2020 Scan to learn how Dr Qasim is changing the way we treat parasitic infections.
