This research degree may be undertaken in any of the school’s principal research areas and strengths. You’ll be supported by a supervisory team and under their guidance, develop a thorough understanding of relevant research techniques. It’s expected that your research will make a contribution to the discipline in which you’re enrolled by applying, critiquing, analysing or interpreting that knowledge in ways that facilitate pathways for further learning. Learning outcomes The successful completion of the program will signify that you have completed a course in postgraduate training in research under academic supervision, and have submitted a thesis that the examiners declare to be a contribution to knowledge and which demonstrates your capacity to carry out independent research. You’ll also be able to: • identify and define research questions • identify the appropriate research methods to address the research questions • demonstrate mastery of your chosen research methodology/methodologies • demonstrate theoretical knowledge at master’s level in your chosen field of research • communicate your research findings in a format appropriate to your academic discipline • write up your research into a high quality thesis • contribute new information or new ways of understanding information in the field of research. Progression to further studies You can apply to transfer to a PhD candidature after a defined period (usually 9-12 months enrolment full-time or equivalent), provided that satisfactory progress has been made and certain conditions are met.
