CAMPUS LIFE AND ACCOMMODATION | 99
The Keele Postgraduate Association( KPA) is a unique organisation, with only a handful of universities known to have a similar organisation; quite simply it is a Students’ Union( SU) that specifically represents postgraduate students at Keele; working to support and represent the best interest of our postgraduate community.
We understand that taking the decision to continue your academic studies is a major commitment, both financially and on your time. It is for that reason that Keele strives to provide the best support it can to its postgraduate students.
Our postgraduate community is diverse; some decide to continue with their studies straight after completing their undergraduate degree, others decide to take a break from their career to return to full-time study, whilst others study part-time whilst working. Whichever path you decide upon, Keele’ s Postgraduate Association( KPA) is here to support your needs.
Whether you are undertaking a PGT( Postgraduate Taught) or PGR( Postgraduate Research) course, the KPA will represent your voice to the University and offers independent support and advice to help you make the right decisions, and to find any funding that might be available to you.
KPA support and guidance includes:
• Independent and impartial advice
• Representation to the University
• Study advice and support, as well as training events
• Conferences and other academic events
• Accommodation advice and support
• Social events throughout the calendar year
• Funding for extracurricular activities in the shape of the KPA Bursary and other avenues
These activities and services are to help you gain the most from your postgraduate studies, whilst forming lifelong friends and professional acquaintances.
KPA – not just about your studies There is more to postgraduate life than just studying and the KPA exists to enrich your experience whilst studying at Keele. It’ s not just academic conferences and networking opportunities; the
KPA arranges a variety of social activities and events throughout the academic year.
The KPA has its own Clubhouse, a central social space for postgraduates, University staff and the local community alike. The Clubhouse provides you with a place to study, relax and interact with your peers and lecturers; helping you to gain the most from your postgraduate studies, whilst forming lifelong friends and professional acquaintances.
The KPA exists to provide representation and support for all postgraduate students at Keele. This is embodied by the KPA’ s full-time and part-time elected officers who sit on University committees that make decisions that affect you and your time at Keele.
