Keele has a longstanding reputation as one of the foremost centres for international and political studies in the country , and today , The School of Politics , Philosophy , International Relations and Environment ( SPIRE ) contains one of the principal concentrations of International Relations and Politics specialists in the UK .
Our academic staff provide internationally recognised teaching and research expertise and offer multidisciplinary specialism in the areas of security studies , international history , international political economy , development , war and society , and political and IR theory . We have regional specialisms in the United States , Britain , Europe ( including the European Union ), Eurasia , Africa and the Middle East .
Our postgraduate programmes are designed to let you develop specialised knowledge in your chosen field whilst gaining a solid grounding in relevant social science theories , approaches and research skills .
We offer a variety of pathways to enable you to achieve a MA ( Master of Arts ) or an MRes ( Master of Research ) to provide a diversity of opportunities for you to advance your career .
We are pleased to say many of our students leave Keele to progress with careers directly related to their field of study in international bodies and political organisations . Some continue to study for a PhD , whilst others leave having secured employment in a variety of sectors such as banking , journalism , teaching and human resources .
SPIRE provides opportunities for both home and international students to broaden their horizons and employment options and International students will find a wealth of support to help them settle into their studies in the UK .
Our focus is your success Our teaching is in small groups , delivered in a variety of lectures , tutorials and group discussions . Students are able to select a topic for their dissertation , with supportive supervision from an academic specialist in that area .
SPIRE also offers programmes of talks from specialist speakers , including the Spotlight on International Relations series of talks from distinguished
Keele alumni . Students have opportunities to deepen their understanding by attending lectures by globally renowned speakers at the World Affairs series ’.
