30 | THE FACULTY OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
School of Humanities
Come to Keele; follow your instincts, follow our expertise, but follow
your passion! From revolution to road movies, Byron to Obama,
writing a novel or composing a symphony, Keele offers a stimulating
research environment for Masters study in the humanities.
No society can understand itself
without the Humanities. Although
our understanding is advanced
by empirical and quantitative
research, we also need to evaluate
and qualitatively assess the world
we live in.
It is here that Humanities subjects,
with their sensitivity to cultural
and historical specificity, come
into their own. Keele has a proven
record in research-led teaching
in the creative arts, literature,
history and American studies. We
are proud to have a diverse and
international staff profile. Our staff
have produced amazing orchestral
works and documentary films,
top-quality journal articles and
prize-winning academic books.
We pride ourselves on small-group
supervision, innovative optional
courses and a full grounding
in applied and theoretical
methodology. We have designed
modules that are based on
cutting-edge research from work
placement modules in media
and management and music
technology to a multi-disciplinary
module in dissent studies. We have
a flexible range of programmes
that have been created specifically
with the various needs of the
postgraduate student. We also
strive to help you, by offering a
range of Humanities Scholarships
and tuition-fee waivers.
Keeping ahead, so you are too
Our research is world-renowned
and cutting edge. From the issue
of forced migration and its impact
on the humanities to the work
of Daniel Defoe and his role as
a political spy. We have award-
winning researchers in local and
international History, English
Literature and Music composition.
Having strong academics working
on the issues today, creates
students that have the knowledge
and expertise to challenge the
issues of tomorrow.
