This collection of posters from first graders is their response to a series of discussions about gender and stereotypes led by Dr . Bartow Jacobs .
During the first session , Dr . Jacobs showed the students a set of toys and asked if they could sort them into ‘ boy toys ’ and ‘ girl toys ’. Through the exercise and discussion , children realized that although they all recognized the stereotypical way that toys could be sorted , they also were able to share evidence from their own lives to demonstrate that real kids like lots of different things from both categories !
