SILVERSEA ’ S NEW SUSTAINABLE SHIPS

The cruise line ’ s next generation Nova-class ships will reduce greenhouse gas emissions while providing seamless luxury
Silversea Cruises has revealed new details of Silver Nova , the first of its next-generation line of Nova-class ships designed to blend industry-leading sustainability credentials with ultra-luxurious onboard refinements .
The cruise line says the hybrid-powered Silver Nova , set for delivery in summer 2023 , will be able to achieve a 40 % overall reduction in its greenhouse gas emissions per double suite when compared to its previous Muse-class ships .
Silver Nova will achieve this through factors such as the inclusion of a waste heat recovery system and the decision to run the vessel primarily on liquefied natural gas ( LNG ). Plus , when in port the ship will draw power from fuel cells and batteries to negate the production of harmful emissions .
Commenting on the launch , first of the line ’ s groundbreaking ‘ Project Evolution ’, Silversea ’ s chief commercial officer , Barbara Muckermann , said : “ Sustainability is the future of luxury travel .”
“ Silversea is already a leader in environmentally conscious travel and now , with Silver Nova , we will go even further to meet the expectations of both today ’ s and tomorrow ’ s luxury traveler ,” she added .
Silver Nova will accommodate 728 guests while offering a 1:1.3 crew-to-guest ratio and the highest space-to-guest ratio in the line ’ s fleet . “ The ship will be delivered in Germany ,” commented Roberto Martinoli , president and CEO of Silversea Cruises . “ So her maiden voyage will take place on the Atlantic coast of Europe sailing from Southampton to Lisbon .”
