There ’ s something magical about Kyoto during fall , when its paths are blanketed in a sea of bright red and orange foliage . Those keen to witness this breathtaking spectacle should visit between mid-November and late December , when the maple leaves transform into fiery reds and the ginkgo leaves turn a beautiful shade of gold . Places not to miss this time of year include Kiyomizu-dera temple , Nijo Castle and Philosopher ’ s Path ( pictured ), named after philosopher and professor Kitaro Nishida , whose students would walk this route daily .
