SPOTLIGHT the expansion of Deer Valley Resort, Utah
The ski-only resort is expanding its terrain, adding 10 lifts to reach over 4,300 acres— making it one of the largest ski resorts in North America. It’ s 40 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport, and with the 2034 Winter Olympic Games in its future, builders are racing to increase capacity and improve area transit.
After a gold-medal career in ski racing, Norwegian Stein Eriksen launched an eponymous alpine lodge in the heart of Deer Valley. Modelled on European skiin, ski-out chalets, it has oversized leather armchairs and crackling fires, plus comfort food in the form of Swedish meatballs, steaming pot roast and sticky toffee pudding. Although the founder passed in 2015, his son Bjorn remains on-site at Stein Sport, a ski and bike outfitter. Today’ s Stein Collection includes the original lodge along with the Chateaux Deer Valley, a 142-room hotel fresh off a multi-million-dollar renovation, and a collection of premium luxury homes with concierge services known as the Stein Eriksen Residences.

The Croatian city has been recognised as the World’ s Leading Sustainable Destination 2025 by the World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards. Dubrovnik’ s‘ Respect the City’ initiative, launched in 2017, seeks to maintain economic growth while preserving historic sites. It includes Croatia’ s first electric car-sharing program, an AI-powered visitor forecasting system, and the Dubrovnik Pass, which streamlines attraction access and manages crowds. Peak congestion has been reduced with a bus reservation system and coordination between port authorities and the Cruise Lines International Association. Thanks to these efforts, Dubrovnik’ s Global Sustainable Tourism Council score has risen from 70 % in 2019 to 86 % in 2023.
“ Over the past years, we’ ve taken determined steps to balance tourism with everyday life, guided by data, collaboration and respect for our UNESCO-listed Old Town. This award confirms that our approach is working and encourages us to continue,” said Dubrovnik mayor Mato Frankovic.
