TURN TO P88 FOR OUR PICK OF THE BEST LAVENDER-HUED WELLNESS ESSENTIALS
Lavender thrives in this Australian state, with its temperate climate, fertile soils and pure air creating a utopia for the cultivation of the plant. The Bridestowe Estate in northeast Tasmania is nestled in the region’ s rolling countryside and produces some of the finest-quality lavender products in the world. It was established in 1922, when a British perfumer decided to try his luck down south— he chose Tasmania due to its similar weather conditions to Provence— and soon realised his dreams when he produced camphorfree, fragrance-grade fine lavender. Bridestowe is now the world’ s largest private lavender farm, where, every year, around 80,000 visitors stroll through the striking fields, observe the traditional oil extraction process and sample goodies such as lavender jams and pillow mists.
Another great option is Port Arthur Lavender Farm, where the purple fields are enveloped by a eucalyptus forest and cascade toward the sea at Long Bay. The farm is in the southeast of the island, with the Port Arthur Historic site a stone’ s throw away. There’ s also Tasmazia and the Village of Lower Crackpot, where a tranquil lavender farm sits in front of the mighty Mount Rolan, alongside wacky mazes and a model village. To really make the most of the lavender season in Tasmania, visit between mid-December to mid-January.
