FOUR TO TRY: WINE BARS IN BUENOS AIRES
1 Naranjo
A champion of Argentina’ s small producers as well as vintages the team simply loves, this Chacarita-based bar stocks 180 labels. A youthful, wine-savvy crowd sips on low-intervention and skincontact wines under the orange tree after which this hipster spot is named, sharing small plates of seasonally led dishes such as asparagus and porchetta.
2Vini
One of Argentina’ s most active wine experts, Aldo Graziani teamed up with fellow sommelier and best friend Luciano‘ Lucky’ Susto to open this simple wine bar four years ago. With a 70-label selection, let Lucky take you on a spontaneous flight from white, orange, rosé and light reds. Delicious small plates by chef Leo Lanussol, such as burrata with dill oil and lacto-fermented turnip, add to the fun. images: getty; awl images
3 Lardito
Behind the floor-to-ceiling streetside window lies one of Buenos Aires’ hippest vinotecas, which doubles up as a casual restaurant. Since its April 2022 opening, Lardito helped inspire a new generation to enjoy wine. Book a spot at the communal table, then browse the 150-strong selection curated by the in-house team led by Pipe Colloca. Star dishes include tataki and xiaolongbao.
4Anchoita Cava
Thanks to head sommelier Valeria Mortara’ s relentless search for labels with a backstory, Anchoita Cava is home to one of Buenos Aires’ most diverse lists. Also stocking renowned world vintages, Anchoita Cava is boosted by a captivating selection of varietals— including Bodega Chacra and Zuccardi Q. This bar is also the Chacarita neighbourhood’ s cheesemonger, stocking over 100 artisanal cheeses.
