In terms of product, we are focused on 3 major bases: Efficiency, Packaging and Repairability.
When we refer to efficiency, what we seek is to develop luminaires that consume less and less energy, this should be the first pillar of brands.
In 2016, when Aronlight was founded, lighting represented around 20% of global energy consumption, with a forecast that by 2025 it would fall to 9%. Giving a basic example of a lamp that 5 years ago could consume 10W, for the same light power, today it can consume 5W and in 5 years it is expected to consume 1W.
At the same time, technological advances and connectivity have brought another level of evolution to the industry, transforming lighting from a product to a technology. Previously, lighting systems were independent, now all lighting systems can be interconnected.
What's behind this are programs with scenarios defined according to the user's preferences, connected to a smarthome or some central system. Then, there are different control platforms that can be based on scenarios, individual, have one change per day, etc.
Aronlight has an engineering and control department that develops solutions and projects daily and has already contributed to significant energy savings.
In terms of packaging, we are committed to reducing the use of plastic, adopting more sustainable and recyclable materials. This change minimizes environmental impact, but also aligns the brand with global trends towards reducing plastic waste.
In terms of repairability, our luminaires already have a high repairability index. This means our products are designed to be easily repaired and maintained, extending their lifespan and reducing the need for replacement.
This feature will be mandatory at European level from 2025. These initiatives not only demonstrate the company's commitment to sustainability, but also provide customers with more responsible, higher-value solutions over time.
PL: Homes are smarter and so is lighting. What is the biggest challenge in always presenting the most technological products?
MV: Aronlight launched the APP - Aron Smart in 2018.
This application was focused solely on products with WIFI technology and we thought it would be a revolution in the market.
The launch of new technologies has the risk that the market will not like or accept the initial price, which, as they are produced on a small scale, has challenging cost prices.
In the case of Wifi products we were easily talking about a difference of 10X the On/Off price.
It was a huge challenge and we decided to close the application in 2023. Wifi proved not to be the future, but on the other hand it allowed us to develop a control team which was very important later on.
Meanwhile, other control technologies have emerged with more interesting prices and specificities.
Nowadays, we develop projects daily with the most different control technologies for different countries.
