Portuguese industry faces several difficulties in the area of human resources, not only in production, but also in hiring designers and marketers.

AIPI – Portuguese Lighting Association has tried to help its companies through partnerships with Schools and Universities, creating dynamic projects with direct interaction between students and companies and facilitating the integration of interns.

It was with this purpose that the LUZZA_IN Entrepreneurship Project was created. Through this initiative we launched the IDEAS COMPETITION for young designers, who could develop lighting ideas that could be implemented and/or produced by our manufacturers.

After an extended period of applications, several presentation sessions of the sector at some universities, dozens of participations and a careful evaluation by the jury, we reached the 3 winners, each of them with a monetary prize of €5000.

On October 20, at the Hotel Carrís Porto Ribeira, we held our awards ceremony. This event was marked by great moments of fraternization between all competitors, teachers, AIPI members and jury, having its high point during the presentation of the winners. The three winners, 3rd year students of the Industrial Design Degree at ESAD.CR, Caldas da Rainha School of Arts and Design – Polytechnic of Leiria, are: Diogo Nobre with his 2C Lamp, Zuzanna Sikora with her Lume Lamp and Luísa Fernandes with her Agregação Lamp.

The five members of the jury, Joaquim Silva Macieira, CEO of Begolux (manufacturer of technical lighting), Ana Serrador, CEO of Villa Lumi (manufacturer of decorative lighting), Joana Marcelino, Architect and CEO of Joana Marcelino Studio, Miguel Costa Cabral, Designer and CEO of Miguel Costa Cabral & Associados, António Lacerda, Designer / Design Professor and President of the National Association of Designers, were unanimous in the importance that this type of competition has for the training of these young people. It is essential to encourage contact between academia and industry so that young people can gain an idea of business reality and manufacturers can benefit from the creative minds that are beginning to form. They also add that these initiatives are extremely attractive and can be an incentive for young people to continue competing and continue to do more and better, as they have had the opportunity to understand what the weaknesses of their projects were and where they need to improve in the future.

With this awards ceremony, we bring our Entrepreneurship Project to an end. We would like to thank all the teachers, our associated companies for their presence at this event and all the participants who took risks, created and surprised us for their support.
