Portuguese Lighting Magazine Issue 22 | Page 37

We give the example of lighting. The main function of luminaires is to light and each space will need different types of light, so in spaces where light is necessary we choose a luminaire with essential characteristics and when the light becomes complementary we can use more creative lamps.

Joaquim Silva Macieira states that there are places where lighting clearly has an aesthetic aspect, such as in our homes, and there are places where lighting has an essentially functional aspect, such as in offices and stores. It is important to have some aesthetic aspect, but the functional aspect is always preponderant.

There are no rules or a magic formula, only you will know what your real needs are. However, it is important to strike a good balance between the area of the space and the quantity and size of objects. You can always use modular furniture or create multifunctional spaces, such as combining the kitchen and the dining room. But be careful, don't give up on the aesthetic aspect, take advantage of the complementary accessories to give that creativity upgrade. Dedicate some time to thinking about the details of your functional and creative decoration in advance, this will make the process much easier when the project is carried out.
