Packaging Waste – In terms of the EU internal market, the flow of packaging and packaging waste is regulated by Directive No. 94/62/EC, which establishes the principle of extended responsibility for the producer. The principle of extended producer responsibility consists of the financial or financial and organizational responsibility of the producer regarding the management of waste from its own products, and this responsibility can be assumed individually or transferred to an integrated system (eg in Portugal – Sociedade Ponto Verde, Novo Verde, Eletrão, Valormed and SIGERU). However, it is up to each MS to define its management model.
To find out if they exist and what obligations the Portuguese producer/ seller must fulfill in this regard, it is particularly important to contact the distributor in the country of destination or the management bodies located in the market (eg Ekokom) – CMS Expert Guide to plastic and packaging waste laws.
SOLVIT network – Informal resolution of disputes arising from the incorrect application of Single Market rules (SOLVIT).
Barriers – Despite the creation of the Single Market without borders, with the four freedoms assured and the constant progress registered (in terms of deepening and strengthening), and taking into account that it is a dynamic process, there are still gaps in areas where integration has progressed more slowly, as well as various obstacles that translate into obstacles, which hinder the proper functioning of the Single Market.
