IMPORTS

According to Comtrade, imports from Spain amounted to USD 426 billion in 2021 (USD 330 billion in 2020). The five main groups of imported products were Machinery and Equipment (16.8% of the total), Chemicals (14.0% of the total), Mineral Fuels (12.9% of the total), Vehicles and Other Material Transport (10.0% of the total) and Agricultural Products (7.7% of the total).

According to Comtrade, Spain's top five suppliers in 2021 were Germany (10.6% of the total), China (9.7% of the total), France (9.5% of the total), Italy (6.3% of the total) and the USA (4.7% of the total). These countries together accounted for 40.8% of the value of imports.

EXPORTS

According to Comtrade, exports from Spain were worth USD 392 billion in 2021 (USD 312 billion in 2020). The five main groups of exported products were Vehicles and Other Transport Material (15.8% of the total), Agricultural Products (12.6% of the total), Chemical Products (12.2% of the total), Machinery and Appliances (11.5% of the total) and Common Metals (8.8% of the total).

According to Comtrade, the five main customer markets in Spain in 2021 were France (15.2% of the total), Germany (9.8% of the total), Italy (8.0% of the total), Portugal (7.5% of the total) and the United Kingdom (5.5% of the total). These countries together accounted for 46.1% of the value of exports.

TRADE BALANCE WITH PORTUGAL

According to INE, Spain was the 1st customer for Portuguese exports of goods in 2021, with a share of 26.7% in the total, ranking 1st in terms of imports (32.8%). Over the period 2017-2021, there was an average annual growth of 5.8% in exports and 5.4% in imports. The trade balance of goods was unfavorable to our country, having presented a deficit of 10 billion euros in 2021.
