themselves to be motivated to overcome them. After such a controversial period, I believe this is what made them move forward and, little by little, the sector returns to what it was before”.

We asked for an assessment of the sector over these 25 years, to which Mr. Castro replies “it turns out to be a positive assessment. I was closely watching this growth that was happening in a gradual and sustained way. There is a lot of work, study and a spirit of sacrifice. But that's the only way to achieve success. And this is recognized around the world by all professionals in the area and beyond. Portuguese brands are increasingly recognized, as a result of their product, which is increasingly admired and integrated into large commercial and international projects, both in hospitality and residential, with a fantastic reputation”.

But what if we think about the future? What can we still expect? Eng. Silva Macieira “I believe that we are approaching a promising future for the Portuguese industry, respectively in the lighting sector. The presence of companies in international markets and events and the recognition of Portuguese quality and excellence is evident, something that can be easily proved by the unexpected economic growth that has been registered this year. It will certainly not be an easy return and the sector will still suffer repercussions from the crisis, but I believe that Portuguese companies are ready for this challenge”.

With the possibility of renewing his mandate, Eng. º Silva Macieira also left a message to all Associates.

First of all, I have to thank our entrepreneurs for the daily contribution they make to the Association and the Portuguese lighting industry. It is important to emphasize that AIPI exists to provide frequent support to its Members, and none of this would be possible without all the work inherent to the Association. We will remain active, resilient and restructuring successful strategies. Principles such as sustainability and concern for the environment are the future, so we intend to focus on these values, ensuring that this turning point and learning turn into something profitable and viable for companies in the sector”.
