IMPORTS
According to Comtrade, imports from Netherlands were worth USD 485 billion in 2020 (USD 515 billion in 2019). The five main groups of imported products were Machinery and Equipment (27.2% of the total), Chemical Products (12.2% of the total), Mineral Fuels (11.4% of the total), Agricultural Products (9 .2% of the total) and Vehicles and Other Transport Material (6.5% of the total).
According to Comtrade, the top five suppliers in Netherlands in 2020 were Germany (17.6% of the total), China (10.5% of the total), Belgium (9.8% of the total) , the US (8.1% of the total) and the UK (4.7% of the total). These countries together accounted for 50.7% of the value of imports.
EXPORTS
According to Comtrade, exports from Netherlands were worth USD 552 billion in 2020 (USD 577 billion in 2019). The five main groups of exported products were Machinery and Equipment (25.0% of the total), Chemical Products (15.4% of the total), Agricultural Products (11.8% of the total), Mineral Fuels (9 .2% of the total) and Food Products (7.0% of the total).
According to Comtrade, the five main customer markets in Netherlands in 2020 were Germany (22.1% of the total), Belgium (10.2% of the total), France (7.7% of the total), the UK (7.2% of the total) and the US (5.0% of the total). These countries together accounted for 52.3% of the value of exports.
TRADE BALANCE WITH PORTUGAL
According to Comtrade, Netherlands recorded a surplus of USD 66 billion in 2020, which represents an increase of USD 6272 million compared to 2016 and of USD 4602 million compared to 2019. Coverage of imports by exports stood at 113.7%, 1.7pp higher than in 2019.
According to INE, Netherlands was the 7th customer for Portuguese exports of goods in 2020, with a share of 3.7% in the total, occupying the 4th position in terms of imports (5.5%). Over the period 2016-2020, there was an average annual growth of 2.3% in exports and 5.1% in imports. The balance of trade in goods was unfavorable to our country, having presented a deficit of 1,762 million euros in 2020. In terms of exports, we highlight Agricultural Products (11.3% of the total), Footwear (10.7% of the total), Plastics and Rubber (10.5% of the total), Machines and Appliances (8.2% of the total) and Vehicles and Other Transport Material (7.6% of the total). The main groups of imported products were Machinery and Appliances (28.8% of the total), Chemicals (19.2% of the total), Agricultural Products (13.9% of the total), Plastics and Rubber (6 .6% of the total) and Optical and Precision Instruments (6.1% of the total).
