LI S A V O LLE FROM THE AMBASSADOR Resolutions “And I told you to be patient And I told you to be fine And I told you to be balanced And I told you to be kind” -JUSTIN VERNON Every January, we resolve to do something new, different, better in the upcoming year. Yet fewer than 10 percent succeed. Why? Maybe we tend to treat our resolutions as more items on an already full to-do list. And trust me … I love a to-do list. I’m prompted to think about this because I’m writing this column on #GivingTuesday, a nationwide movement kicking off the holiday giving season. I’d like to challenge all of us to put giving to the arts on our list of resolutions. The change of the calendar year reminds us of the importance, value and constant renewal that arts and culture provide. Why does art matter to you? For me, culture — music, drama, dance, literature, design, and the humanities as a whole — serves as a kind of universal code for our lives. It helps us express the biggest possible ideas and provides the most profound impact on individuals. And creativity is contagious, refreshing and energizing. Give big, give small, give often, give because it feels good and makes a difference both to you and to the organizations you support. There are so many ways to engage, invest and be a part of something you feel passionate about!
