Harry S . Colt is the designer of this golf course , who also worked on Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland , site of the British Open , Pine Valley in America , the Eden Course of Saint Andrews and many others . Subsequently , Peter Allis and Dave Thomas , former English professional golfers , collaborated in the 70s to remodel the course of the Golf de Cannes-Mougins . Finally , in 2015 , the course was remodeled by architect Tom Mackenzie , to bring it in line with developments in golf equipment and make it a more competitive and attractive golf course .
It ’ s in 1979 that Cannes-Mougins hosted its first big international tournament , which ran until 1994 . From 1984 , the Open de Cannes-Mougins was part of the European professional golf circuit . Among the winners of the event were David Frost , Severiano Ballesteros , and Ian Woosnam .
Cultural attractions abound on the Cote d ’ Azur , including the Picasso Museum in Antibes , the Renoir House in Cagnes sur Mer , the Foundation Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence , the Chagall Museum and the Matisse Museum in Nice , and the newly opened Femmes Artistes Musee Mougins ( FAMM ) in Mougins , a museum dedicated to women artists , the first such private museum in Europe . This museum has over a hundred works created by eighty female artists from around the world . Among the artists whose works on are view are Berthe Morisot , Mary Cassatt , Louise Nevelson , Frida Kahlo , Joan Mitchell , Lee Krasner , and Elaine de Kooning , among others . Mougins has always been an attractive site for artists , being a residence of Picasso , Fernand Leger , Coco Chanel , and Winston Churchill , many of whose paintings were done in the Mougins area . Under the expert guidance of museum director Leisa Paoli , the museum displays a remarkable range of works from representational portraits from the late Nineteenth Century to the most abstract works by late Twentieth Century artists .
