Ronald Kotinsky is a self-taught nature photographer from Tampa Bay , Florida . Ronald ’ s interest in photography grew while out on the water kayaking in the early morning and late evenings . After witnessing the beauty of nature on the water with the unique view from kayak ; he decided to take his Canon DSLR on every excursion . On July 11 th of 2016 he took his kayak out on the waters of Tampa Bay for a late day fishing trip . Unknown to him at the time , a large and powerful thunderstorm would leave him trapped on the water in a precarious situation . After being soaked and pelted with rain as lightning landed all around him , he managed to emerge from cover and photograph some of the largest and fiercest lightning strikes ever seen . The photos went worldwide when The Sun and News Corp Australia published the story . This moment sealed his love for photography and all things outdoors .
In 2018 , Ronald took his photographic talents into the world of bird photography . Not only does Florida offer beautiful sunsets , lightning , and landscapes ; it is a host to a large variety of birds . Many remain year-round and many migrate through Florida to their wintering grounds in Central America . Ronald ’ s portfolio quickly filled with fantastic images of bald eagles , owls , egrets , and spoonbills as well as a host of other migratory species . Besides being beautiful , his work documents bald eagle ’ s nests and provides site reports on banded birds . One of his best reflection photos is a roseate spoonbill banded with the letters “ 3B ”. Photographed and reported in 2020 , the biologist banded it back in April of 2006 which made the bird over 14 years old .
