Architect Ron Prichard has been working with Mountain Ridge CC since the mid-1990s on the on-going renovation and maintenance of their Donald Ross-designed course . According to the club ’ s official history — written for its Centennial in 2012 — Ross ’ s design was little changed ; notably , the routing has remained intact . Over the years , hazards were moved or removed to suit certain individual ’ s whims , but Prichard has since returned the course as much as possible to Ross ’ original design and concept .

Hole # 17 ing some significant tree removal — happened in anticipation of MRCC hosting its first national championship , the USGA ’ s Senior Amateur , in 2012 . But it didn ’ t end there .
“ I put together a plan that would emphasize the size and beauty of those Ross putting surfaces ,” says Prichard . “ They needed a lot of work , as did the bunkering , which had fallen into disrepair . We needed to peel away the pain and expose Ross ’ s genius . My original plan adhered very closely to Ross ’ s original drawings , with one of the biggest functions pushing out the putting surfaces as they ’ d all been shrunken down to circles . We had to restore areas that had been abandoned .”
The golf course has received numerous honors and high rankings : Mountain Ridge was number 90 in Golf Magazine ’ s Top 100 Golf Courses in the U . S . ( 2020-21 ) at # 90 , on Golfweek ’ s list of “ Top 200 Classic Courses ” ( 2021 ), and among one of Golf Digest ’ s best courses in New Jersey ( 2021-22 ).
