MOVEMENT
REAL
We experience the world through movement.
Although biocular vision gives us a virtual third
dimension it is the parallax effect produced
through the slightest of movement that allows us
to truly experience depth. The more movement
that occurs, the more the world unfolds around us.
VIRTUAL
Virtual movement in Architecture allows the
observer to anticipate movement in an otherwise
static object. The gestural form of Architecture
can influence and be influenced by Real Movement
creating a dialogue in time.
PROCESS & INTERFACE
Process implies a tectonic expression. Materials
come together in a way in which the process is
legible, ongoing or apparently unfinished. Edge
conditions dissolve, thresholds are thick, layers
delaminate.
Interface is Architecture at the point of contact
with movement. It describes the intersection
between the moving world and the static form of
architecture. Railroad ties are used to emphasize
movement along the pedestrian bridge. In other
areas, grating is used to provide an aggressive
surface in which to plant one’s feet.
NATURAL PROCESS
Natural process seeks to remind the viewer
of larger time scales, seasonal and ongoing.
Conditions for growth as well as the erosion and
deposition of materials through weathering create
an evolving stage in which life unfolds.
