Contrary to that teacher who uses to threaten us with the evils of public school, I learned that because someone may not choose a specific school, does not mean that they deserve less. As the year continued I grew to have a great relationship with my teacher. I would always want to help her wherever I could in the classroom, and she would allow me. As the relationship grew, I saw the many things she did for the students. She would buy small gifts such as fancy pencils and pens, and books that students enjoy. At the time, I did not know she was paying for them out of her pocket. I would go on to learn that many of the little things that she did for the class she would pay for out of her pocket. Not only was she fun and did things to make us enjoy school, she pushed us to be the best we could be. As we progressed through school my teacher stayed in contact with me and other students helping us through high school and college decisions. It is this type of commitment that I believe inner city students also deserve and for which I am willing to give.
