1.
Nail Biting: I have demonstrated this behavior on many occasions. For example when I am
nervous I start to pick and bite at my nails. When I am getting ready to take a test and during the
test I will be picking/ biting my nails. This behavior does not have an effect on others, but they
do try to encourage me to stop doing it. To change this behavior I try to keep my nails done.
Also when I get nervous I try to think of the positive and not focus so much on what I am
nervous about. When I had my calculus 2 final I was very nervous so I started picking at my nails
a lot. To stop myself from picking at them while studying for finals I painted them, and when I
was still temped to pick at them I would take a break from studying. The day of the final when I
noticed I was picking at my nails I would take a deep breath and move on to a problem that I
knew a little better.
2. Putting more on my plate than I can handle is another habit I have. I demonstrate this behavior
when people ask me to do things and I do not say no. It is sometimes hard for me to say no to
people, because I always want to be able to help someone when they need help. This habit does
not negatively affect others; it gives them one less thing to do. If the task is something I know I
will not be able to do I am trying to refer them to someone else that can get the job done, or
contribute something to still help. For example I was asked to be over a section of a volunteer
group, I knew I was not good at what was being asked of me. Someone else said they would take
over that section, and I let them know I was willing to help them, so they gave me some smaller
tasks to complete.
3. When I am bored I tend to sleep a lot, instead of finding something to do. Over break if I was not
working or did not have something that needed to be done I would take a nap. I could be doing
something productive instead of sleeping. This habit can have an effect on other if they need my
help with something. In my efforts to change this habit when I get bored I try to find something
to do like read a book, cook, bake or do some arts and crafts. On the weekends when I am not
doing much I will sleep, instead of sleeping I have started reading a book instead.
