Meet Harriett Ball

A classroom hero

Mrs. Ball is the creater of Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP) where the core belief is that all students regardless of demographics, will learn and achieve. Not only was she the creater of such a successful program, but she has also inspired the most successful charter school network in the country. Mrs. Ball was known by her peers for her development of "disposable crutches." These are a stream of mnemonic chants essentil rules of grammar and math that helped her 4th graders learn the material.

Born Harriett Jane Hill on July, 1 1946 in Rsdenberg Texas, Harriett taught in Austin and Huston Texas for 35 years. She recieved her teaching degree from Huston-Tillotson University in Austin Texas. She was the single mother of 4 children Rochelle, Pamela, Paul and Priscilla. Harriett Ball toured the worlld teaching teachers her "fearless learning" teaching style. She has created the Harriet Ball Enterprises a teaching consultancy firm. Harriett's goal was to help teachers imporve so they could reach the under- taught children.
