Texas Rangers Ballpark Project E xcitement in Arlington’s world-class Entertainment District continued to grow with the start of construction on the Texas Rangers future ballpark and the adjacent $250-million Texas Live! entertainment complex. The City of Arlington, partnering with the Texas Rangers, launched Home Plate Update, a digital quarterly publication, to chronicle the progress of these transformative projects through 2020. Takes Shape in the NEWS STORY Entertainment District Globe Life Field Project Kicks Off The City of Arlington and the Texas Rangers marked several significant milestones on the $1.1-billion retractable-roof Globe Life Field project in fiscal year HOME PLATE 2017, including a naming rights deal, unveiling of architectural renderings and the official groundbreaking ceremony. NEWS The Texas Rangers and HKS released revised STORY renderings for the 1.7-million- square-foot ballpark in late September, providing the public with even more images of the field, roof and concourse levels. Days later, the Arlington City Council, Texas Rangers leadership and Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred, joined by hundreds of community members, gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the ballpark project. Shortly afterward, the real dirt turning began. Manhattan Construction Company kicked off a five-month project to excavate and haul off approximately 1.3 million cubic feet of dirt from the site. Significant progress was also made during the year on the Texas Live! entertainment complex, which broke ground in March. The $250-million development, located between AT&T Stadium and the future Globe Life Field, is being built by the Texas Rangers and the team’s development partner, The Cordish Companies. Texas Live!, which will be anchored by a $150-million flagship Live! by Loews luxury hotel, will feature restaurants, retail and indoor and outdoor entertainment spaces. Texas Live! will house more than 200,000 square feet of best-in-class restaurants, retail and entertainment, as well as a 5,000-capacity outdoor event pavilion when it debuts next year. The project will further cement The Americ an Dream City as one of the premier sports, entertainment and hospitality destinations in the country for decades to come.
