Achievements HOME PLATE NEWS The FY2016 PAFR was STORY recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association with the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting. The document was singled out for its professional design and understandability. The City’s Office of Communication was recognized statewide and nationally for its work with 15 awards from the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO) and 3CMA, the national organization of public information officers. Among them were five 1 st place awards for Internal Communications, Best One Time Event, Best Use of a Promotional Item and video production including Best One -Time Programming for the FY2016 Budget Video. The City was also recognized for its work in marketing, media relations, social media and graphic design. The City’s Master Composters won first place in the 2016 Texas Environmental Leadership Awards. The program was recognized in the Outstanding Composting Program category as a true steward of environmental change in Texas. Through its longstanding partnership with UT Arlington, more than 72,000 pounds of food waste from university cafeterias was composted in 2015. The City of Arlington was one of 15 Texas employers recognized by the National Safety Council for proven commitment to traffic safety. Arlington was among four cities to receive “exemplary” recognition for its employee education programs centered on traffic safety. The work of the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department team was honored with a host of awards in FY2017, most notably as a National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Gold Medal Finalist, making it one of the top four Parks and Rec agencies in the country. Other honors included: • Lone Star Programming Award for Yappy Hour Dog Walk • Playful City USA designation (10-time honoree) • Tree City USA designation • Recreation Professional of the Year for ARPD employee Courtni Anderson 18 | Popular Annual Financial Report The American Medical Association recognized Arlington Fire Chief Don Crowson for his work in the advancement of public health. Crowson, a 34-year veteran of the Fire Department, was among 10 recipients of the 2017 Dr. Nathan Davis Awards for Outstanding Government Service. These are the highest awards for elected officials and government employees from the nation’s largest physician organization.
