After the foot has been measured, the last chosen, and the parts designed and cut out, the test shoes are cut out of chrome-tanned leather after the tracing. On the left, a silver pen traces the pieces and they are cut out with a very simple knife. after the pieces are cut out, before they are sewn together, some pieces go through the skiving machine. This pares the edges so two pieces of leather layered upon one another fit flatter, more cleanly. precision and foresight in this part of the process makes for a more aesthetically pleasing shoesas well as keeping a seam from being too thick to sew or even wear.
