SHAZ'S BITS

COSPLAYING IS FOR EVERYONE

B

eing negative is the first aaaaaaaaaaaa thing ignorant people do when sssssssssssssss they want you to feel aaaaaaaaaaa unaccomplished. They sssssssss sss e eeeeeeee say these things to crush your spirit, your soul and your happiness. As a cosplayer people question everything that you do. They say that you are a “cosplay fail” if you aren’t the same weight, height or color as the character that you love. But it doesn’t matter, cosplay is you being a character that you love, being anything that you want and loving yourself. Whether you buy the costume or make it yourself, it is how you feel putting it on (which is awesome). Seeing a character you love come to life because YOU made it come to life is a wonderful feeling.

bought my sssssssssssssssssssssssssssstwo face costume ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssbecause I didn't own ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssa sewing machine ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssand I was antsy ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssabout it the entire sssssssssssssssssssssssssssstime. When I put the sssssssssssssssssssssssssss suit on I felt this wave ssssssssssssssssssssssswave of electrcity surge sssssssssssssssssssssssurge through my body sssssssssssssssssssssssbody(no I wasn’t sssssssssssssssssssssssssss electrocuted) . sssssssssssssssssssssssssss Putting on the sssssssssssssssssssssssssss makeup I felt my sssssssssssssssssssssssssss palms sweat and my sssssssssssssssssssssssssss anxiety grew. Finally

when I put on the wig and I saw how I looked, I felt

energized and ecstatic. I became one of my

favorite Batman villains and I felt awesome. I

was ready to go to the Kon and enjoy myself.

On my way to the Kon, however, I was graced

with negative people.

“Why would you want to be ugly?”

“Why didn’t you pick a cute character?”

“Why are you two-face? He is a man.”

“Two-face isn’t black”

“Black two-face? Cosplay fail.”

I

f I listened to these people I wouldn’t have gone to the second day or cosplayed again. I chose Two-Face because I grew up watching Batman the Animated Series and I loved him in there. I am not choosing a character that is my complexion, my breast size or my height to please anyone (which is none by the way). I am choosing who I want because I love the character. And you should too.

aya Han (who doesn’t let her height stop her from cosplaying) told me that she loved my cosplay, it was spot on and to continue my cosplaying dreams. THAT is the one of the comments I loved and I am using to fuel myself. So to the negative people who think that my cosplay was inferior or anyone else’s was, well they can suck my big toe.

was in a store and some guys were discussing the cosplayers that they saw and they were laughing at Hawkgirl’s wings saying that she look like she had bird flu. Small minded people look for the slightest thing to find fault in anything that you do, even when there is nothing they still find fault. Hawkgirl’s wings were amazing, I am very proud of her because she told me she isn’t artistic and she accomplished such a huge undertaking by herself.

ever let the small minded people get to you. I won’t sugar coat it and say that they aren’t out there; they are always there every day. If you have small breasts and you wear a top, the small minded people like to point out that you lack breasts. If you are big and you dress up, they have the gall to tell you that you look nice for a big girl (which to me implies that 4 out of 5 times a big girl looks bad.)
