MEET AN ARTIST

rivenis black

Tell us a little bit about yourself: What got you interested in art? Have you taken any art classes?

Well first off, I never had any formal training. In school I just didn’t gel with my teachers and they seemed oppressive to me. Maybe its all the coconut trees and chattel houses they expected me to draw.

As for what got me interested in art? Well it’s the same answer you’ll get from most professional artists. There was never any point in life that I wasn’t into art. As soon as I could hold a pen I was an artist.

What is your preferred medium and why?

I really like pencil and paper because it was my first medium and the one I feel most comfortable in. I got into digital painting much later, but I like it because its less messy. I’m a pretty disorganized guy and I mess up a lot. Ctrl z is a good thing.

Do you have an online portfolio or a blog where we can view your work?

I have several. My portfolio website is:

http://rivenis.net/

The blog for my comic Diskordia is:

My deviant art page is:

Do you have a favorite artist? If yes, what draws you to that person’s work?

I have several actually. And what draws me to their work besides their technical skill is the power and originality of their concepts. Artists that are able take the visuals we all see and create something completely unique. To name a couple:

zdzisław beksiński & Michael Hussar

Can you remember one of the first things you drew/sculpted/painted/photographed etc.? What makes it memorable?

My memory would be fuzzy since I started so early but I remember I used to draw a lot of robot comics. Transformers inspired stuff as a kid.
