Elected representatives let
Margao down

arbage problem in Margao is
not only related to domestic
garbage but also medical waste and
construction debris. These types of
lethal garbage dumps are also lying
around everywhere. The authorities
who are supposed to take care of the
problem are just not bothered. They
have not been able to do anything despite pumping money from the public
exchequer into so called solutions.
After spending huge sums of money,
the issue has not been solved.
Secondly, government has to do
something about the Hospico Hospital.
This is the major district hospital for the
whole of South Goa right upto Canacona. But it is in pathetic state.
By now the new premises should have
been operational and giving services to
people. But it doesn’t seem to be going
anywhere. Looks like , another 5-10
years the hospital is going to remain in
the same present state. The new building
is incomplete state and the construction
work has been stopped. .
The state of Margao bus stand is appalling. It’s not a bus stand, its just a temporary shade. Congress MLA Digambar
Kamat has been here for so long . Everytime he contested elections the Margao
bus stand appeared in his manifesto. But
there is absolutely nothing done about it
for ages now.
This is why we feel that there is no
political will at all to do anything for
Margao. In 2003 when Parrikar came to
power for the first time he had done some
developmental works like Ana Fonte garden, Ravindra Bhavan etc. But after that
this major city has been totally sidelined
and ignored.
Traffic is also a big issue in Margao. It
affects people day in and day out. Congestion and bottlenecks are there almost on
all major roads. There have been plans of
having flyovers but till date nothing has
materialized.
Elected representatives have miserably
failed to get things done and whenever
good government officials put their foot
down and try to do some concrete work
they are harassed. Civic problems are
surely taking toll of people in Margao.

Salcete roads
becoming death traps
Citizens should
own responsibility

oads in Salcete are an
issue which needs to addressed on priority. It’s a big
problem. Just one example- the
road which goes from Carmona
to Margao and Varca to Benaulim
is really terrible. It is almost like a
death trap. They had dug the road
four months back to lay PWD
pipeline. Till date the road is not
repaired. Everyday there are accidents on this road.
Average one accident is there
per day and once a month there is
at least one major accident. Two
deaths have already taken place in
the recent past. Nobody is paying
attention because our MLA is not
interested at all in taking care of
the problem. I
