tsunami of lifestyle related chronic
disease, where there is now a pill
or drug for almost every know
ailment. High blood pressure,
high cholesterol, diabetes, kidney
disease, thyroid disorders, gastric
reflux and the list goes on. Health
professionals are trained with all
the tools they need to treat the
symptoms of chronic disease,
not the cause. Based on the best
available balance of evidence
throughout the clinical literature,
we can be assured with great
confidence that a diet consisting
of largely or entirely whole plant
foods is the most healthful way
to eat in order to prevent and/
or reverse chronic disease. With
the number one determinant
of overall mortality worldwide
being what we choose to eat,
the power to impact our health
destiny is at the end of our fork,
not inside a pill bottle or hospital
operating room.
We’ve been advised by various
health organisations for decades
that the key to optimal human
health can be achieved by
eating everything in ‘moderation’,
but it is clear for all to see in the
ever-rising numbers of dietary
related chronic disease, that
relying on moderating our food
choices is simply
not enough.
Choosing to
consume animal
products, highly
processed foods
and refined sugars
in ‘moderation’
does not make
these foods any
less damaging
to the human
body, meaning
the diagnosis of a
chronic disease
may only be
delayed rather than
prevented.
If you or someone
you care for is
reading this and
feel that they no
longer want to feel helpless in the
fight against their weight, high
blood pressure, diabetes, heart
disease, irritable bowel syndrome,
gastric reflux, gout, asthma or
other chronic disease, there is
hope to be found by making
the switch to a diet rich in whole
plant-foods such as vegetables,
fruit, wholegrains, beans,
legumes and nuts. Changing
how you eat can be difficult at
first due to habits and traditions,
but the benefits afforded by
following this lifestyle can be truly
transformative, and the closer you
move towards an entirely plantbased
diet, the more positive
changes will happen to your
health.
