Q4. What qualification do you
need to have to become a
personal shopper? And have
you seen personal shoppers
do a bad job?
EQ (Emotional Quotient) is
very important as well as
understanding of luxury lifestyles
in different countries and
cultures contexts over formal
qualifications.
When you talk about personal
shoppers doing a bad job, it is
mostly about the pushy staff at
department stores who will have
the customers buy ‘seasonal
must have items’ without taking
personal style and lifestyle in
consideration purely to meet
their employers unrealistic sales
targets.
Q5. As a personal shopper -
what is the hottest item for sale
for men and women? And
can you foresee what would
be the hottest item for sale in
2021?
I am not driven by the trends/
hottest items. I take pride in
offering my clients only timeless
items that are true to who they
are and that they will be wearing
for many seasons/ years. The
exception is when the latest trend
fully resonates with a particular
client’s style or when clients make
specific requests.
Q6.In terms of marketing your
business - when do you get
your clients from and how
do you service their needs?
And do you have a minimum
spend?
My clients come mostly by word
of mouth and referrals from
existing happy clients but I have
seen an increase of shopping
requests coming through our
website as well as new clients
joining from social media. There is
no obligation/ minimum spend for
our services at all.
Q7. What is the most
expensive items that you
have bought for a client? And
where do you source it from?
The most expensive item we
bought for a client was an rare
Hermes handbag from an
auction in Hong Kong but we
are more proud of the best deal
we bought for a client: A pair of
Louboutin heels for only USD 65
sourced from Christian Louboutin
family and friends sale.
Q8.What advice would you
give to become a personal
shopper? And who is your
mentor if you have one?
Be resilient, it takes a while to build
your clientele. I would also add
patience as it takes patience,
speed (getting pictures and
