A FACE IN THE CROWD

This week’s Face in the Crowd is Michael Tomkinson, a 21 year-old Birmingham Road season ticket holder who’s followed The Baggies since 1999. He’ll be telling us about his trip to Wales last Saturday.

WE WON AWAY!! I’ve finally seen us win away this season. Actually, forget winning away, we won a game! We actually won a football game! Only our fifth league win of the season but that incredible victory could have been so different.

Another poor showing from Pepe’s players in the first period led to us only thinking whether he would still be our manager at the start of the second half. Sacking a manager at half time would’ve been a first but, as we all know nowadays, nothing is impossible with Albion.

We know he can’t speak perfect English and doesn’t take his own half-time team talks but whatever information he passed through Keith Downing and Dean Kiely certainly worked. We came out into the second half inspired and a few crunching tackles and attacking mentality certainly spurred us, as fans, to get behind the team.

The truth is, we could have 3 or 4 goals down at half-time and, without that Stephane Sessegnon goal out of nothing, I don’t think we’d have got back in the game and I definitely don’t think we’d have come back with all three points. But as that sweet side-footed shot rolled ever slowly towards the goal you couldn’t help but think that the outcome of our game, and our season, could be changing in that very moment.

And now, with nine games of our Barclays Premier League campaign, the momentum that we gain from this win could be absolutely huge. It could be pivotal, especially with three consecutive games against relegation rivals, the next three games could make or break our season.

If one thing could be said, it’s certain that Pepe Mel has the backing of the fans. We turned out in our numbers and showed our support for our Spaniard through the flock of Spanish flags (No, they weren’t for Swansea’s many Spanish players). If you’d like to relive the scenes at the end of the game, there picture (Above) turns into a video through the Aurasma app on your smartphones.

Boing Boing!!
