Looking Ahead: TECHNOLOGY FOR the Future Google Glasses Project Glass, as it is referred, is still in its early stages with the first prototype being released at the recent Google Zeitgeist in London. A series of new patents have been attained for a plethora of functions including one for the hearingimpaired, which will provide visual cues to aid in locating the source of nearby sounds. Other patents include additional cameras that will allow for two different views simultaneously, and another that will choose the appropriate display based on whether the user is sitting, running, etc. After the Google Plus Photographer’s Conference a group of photographers tested the device to confirm its compatibility with Google Plus, and demonstrate the device’s photographic capability which is said to be a main focus with this project. Project Glass is not an effort by Google to offer augmented reality as rumors claim, and Google has been clear in stating that the glasses portrayed in the introductory video were more concept than reality.
