Summer Term Roundup
Lower School
The Summer term has delivered many challenges for the Lower School. The First Years attempted
their first exam week and have joined the Second year in celebrating their results. I have been so
impressed to see every pupil rise to this challenge and reap the rewards of their hard work. We
welcomed 63 pupils to the school at the end of June for their Induction Day. This bright and bubbly
group will be our First year come September and I am sure they will all look to seize every
opportunity that Pock School has to offer. I would like to wish everyone a safe and relaxing Summer
and fingers crossed for the House Campers, that the sun will shine in Bamburgh in early July.

Middle School
For the last few weeks our Fifth Year students have been consumed by the long slog through those
arduous GCSEs. As a year group they have impressed us with their serious, professional and
focused approach and we all wait for what we hope will be a celebratory day in August as all that
work pays off and they head confidently into Sixth Form, leaving behind the blazer in a better place.
On Friday 15th June, we gathered to thank the students for all their work and to celebrate their time
in Middle School with a James Bond-themed mocktails and canapés evening followed, of course, by
a karaoke mega-competition! Never before has there been such a glamorous array of arrivals: from
vintage cars to helicopters and mopeds in between! A wonderful evening. Well done to all and
enjoy that long summer break.
Gareth Hughes, Head of Middle School
Sixth Form
It’s been, as always!, a hugely busy term. Of course, for both Lower and Upper Sixth the main focus
has been on exams, and preparing for the next year. We wish the Upper Sixth all the best as they
move on to pastures new, and look forward to sharing and celebrating their success in August on
results day.
As I write this Sports Day is just around the corner, and as usual will be an exciting and busy
occasion, especially for the newly appointed House and School Prefects. For many, this will be their
first foray into leadership as part of their new roles, and I know they will all rise to the challenge with
enthusiasm and good spirit.
The Lower Sixth have now firmly started on their planning for life after Pocklington; UCAS
applications are underway, and will no doubt be augmented with work experience and university
visits in what remains of the term and over the summer.
Ed Long, Head of Sixth Form
Scarlett McMullen is the Under 13 Schools’
Novice Trampolining Champion after winning
her category in the British Gymnastics National
Schools’ Trampoline Finals.
Pocklington School’s Under 13s team of Lucy
Grewer (1st Year), Lucy Harrison-Little, Ally Law
and Scarlett (all 2nd Year), were close
runners-up in the U13 category at the same
event, held in Northern Ireland at the beginning
of the Easter holidays.
Jan Kilsby, Games teacher i/c trampolining,
said: “I’m proud of Scarlett and the entire team
for staying calm and focused in the highly
charged atmosphere of a national final, and
putting in wonderful performances. They’ve
worked very hard and their success is
well-deserved.”
Team Pock
success at the
English Schools’
Athletics
Competition
On Tuesday 5 June, athletes from the Middle
School gave a fantastic performance at the
English Schools’ Athletics Team Competition
Regional B final held at Costello Stadium, Hull.
The Inter Boys’ team performed brilliantly, to
win the Regional B final by a fantastic 32 points.
They had previously qualified for the second
round of the English Schools’ team competition
by winning the Humberside competition.
In the individual events, Lukas Bradshaw threw
the English Schools’ qualifying standard for the
discus and will now be selected to represent
Humberside in this prestigious competition for
the second year in a row.
