Staff news

In September we look forward to welcoming several new colleagues to Pocklington School. Kate Rose joins us as SENCO Co-ordinator, while Katie Kellett will take up the post of Teacher of Psychology. We are also delighted to welcome Nicky Bryan to the Business and Economics Department, Alex Bell, who joins as Head of Hockey and Sports Department Assistant, and Aled Jones who becomes our new Head of Rugby and Sports Department Assistant.
There are a number of internal appointments to note. Andy Scrowston ' s Foundation TST Co-ordinator role and Paul Allams ' position as Lower School Gruggen Housemaster become permanent. Lydia Walker and Charlie Prosser have jointly taken on responsibility as Projects Co-ordinators. From September, Georgia Hird will step up as Head of PE.
We are very sad to say farewell to a number of colleagues this year. Lisa Hutchinson, Ceri Himsworth, Ben Byas, Sam Fox, Marty Devine and Gemma Hudson are all moving on to new ventures, and we thank them for their contributions to the school. Carol Devine also leaves us as her maternity cover period comes to an end.
We extend our warmest wishes and heartfelt thanks to three colleagues who are retiring this year: Andy Towner, Ann Tomlinson, and Julia Ledger. Between them, they represent over 60 years of dedicated service to the school, with Andy contributing 33 of those – a remarkable contribution that will be greatly missed.
And finally, of course, we say goodbye to our Headmaster, Toby Seth, as he leaves Pocklington after an immensely impactful tenure. We thank him for his inspirational leadership and commitment to the school community, and wish him every success in the future.
We also look forward to welcoming our new Head, Becky Lovelock, who will be joining us in September.

17th annual school walk raises funds for house charities

This year marked the 17th edition of our much-loved school walk, a tradition that stretches back more than three decades. First initiated by outgoing Headmaster Tony Pickering on 25th June 1992, the inaugural walk raised an impressive £ 4,000.
Now in 2025, it was heartening to see this event still going strong, with students and staff honouring the legacy as they took on the 24km route through the stunning Yorkshire Wolds.
Staff from across the foundation played key roles in making the day a success, from marshalling the route to providing encouragement and support. Meanwhile, our pupils showed remarkable determination, spirit and teamwork as they completed the challenging trek.
This year’ s event raised a fantastic total of £ 3000.30, which will be split between our four house charities for the 2024 / 25 academic year.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and donated, your efforts help keep this special tradition alive and thriving.
