VIRTUAL SCHOOL WALK 2020 WINNERS DOLMAN HOUSE In this unfamiliar summer term, continuing to engage students in the co-curricular life of school whilst working remotely has been an important process in allowing our students to feel challenged, motivated and connected to school on a deeper level than purely tuning in to online lessons. Duke of Edinburgh online training was a ‘first’ and a great success and ‘Drop Everything And Read’ was a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as school to participate in this termly event. The interaction from students across the year groups, letting us know about their achievements away from their lessons has been superb; we have seen gardening, art work, sewing and virtual triathlons as well as ferret breeding and photography. Our wonderful musicians have continued to wow us with their vocal and instrumental talents via online concerts and our Drama students have showcased their talents via the same platform with monologue performances. Virtual VE Day celebrations proved a huge success in celebrating the 75th anniversary together and I am delighted with how well our entire school community has engaged with the larger scale events such as the remote School Walk and virtual Sports Day. In challenging times, our Pocklingtonians have continued to build upon their pursuits away from their academic studies, just as they do so well while physically at school. I am incredibly proud of the way they have turned this unfamiliar way of working into an opportunity to broaden their horizons and develop their character, whilst upskilling themselves away from their screens. Lucy Hornby, Head of Co-curriculum Virtual Sports Day ran for 1st - 3rd years during their PE lessons in the final weeks of term. There were some superb times and distances recorded.
