School shortlisted for two awards Pocklington School is a finalist in two school awards – the prestigious national Tes Independent School Awards and the regionally sought-after Hull Daily Mail Golden Apple Awards. The School has been shortlisted for the Tes Best Use of Technology award 2020, for its support and use of the innovative Chatta learning app, which has proved particularly successful in helping our Early Learners become stronger communicators, readers, writers, and thinkers. Chatta was recently named as one of the world’s 100 brightest education innovations for the second consecutive year by global education non-profit organisation HundrED, which highlights best practice ideas and innovations to help the future of education. We are also a nominated finalist in the Hull Daily Mail Golden Apple Awards, in the Outstanding Sporting Achievement category. The selection recognises the work of our dedicated and energetic sports department in inspiring pupils of all ages and abilities to enjoy sport and exercise in all its forms, plus the constant evolution of our sports offering to ensure pupils find sport relevant, positive and exciting. Headmaster Toby Seth said: “I am thrilled at these accolades, which recognise our ambition for our pupils and our commitment to supporting them with their aspirations inside and outside the classroom.” Diary Dates Creative entrepreneurs return to School for Careers & Business Network event Lent Term Monday 6 January – Boarders return to school Tuesday 7 January – start of Lent Term Saturday 18 January – 11+ and 13+ Assessment Morning Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 January – House Music Festival 25/26 January – Exeat weekend Friday 14 February – Start of half term holiday Monday 24 February – Start of second half of term Saturday 29 February – Pocklington School and Pocklington Prep School- Open Morning Friday 27 March – End of term Our Careers & Business Network held its latest event in the Art & Design Technology Centre recently, with the focus on creative and small businesses. Guest speakers for the evening were Old Pocklingtonians Beth Todd and James Wilkinson. Beth and James shared with guests their experiences of setting up their own businesses, what motivated them to do so and the challenges they have faced along the way. Toby Seth, Headmaster co-hosted the event with three Pocklington School Business Studies students, who helped create the question and answer session. Toby commented: “This is my third Careers and Business Network event. We have heard from OPs who are lawyers, business people and now entrepreneurs who have started their own businesses. What former pupils get up to when they leave Pocklington is astonishingly varied and so I think it is even more important that we prepare them for life after school with more than just excellent grades. That is why I think our Values and Virtues are fundamental. “Beth and James demonstrated these in so many ways and I am so grateful to them for coming back to Pocklington. I was also delighted to see so many of our current students in the audience. This is really energising to see – they can learn so much from people like Beth and James. We were also so pleased to welcome a great mix of current and former parents and Old Pocklingtonians.” For details about the PSF Careers and Business Network visit: www.pocklingtonschool.com/Careers-and-ne tworking-opportunities Parents’ Evenings Wednesday 29 January - Fifth Year Thursday 27 February - First Year Tuesday 10 March - Third Year Christmas Gift Ideas Jute bags, Pock Bear, Sports bottles, thermo mugs and lots more, all great stocking fillers for the festive season!
