Led by Sixth Formers, each of the four Houses worked across the year groups to perform with fresh interpretation and engaging delivery. Dolman House presented A Series of Unfortunate Events directed by Guy Prew and Jessie Morgan. The play used shadows and the wild, maniacal lead of James Burton as Olaf to lead its young characters from threat to worse threat. Hutton performed Aladdin, directed by Peter Massey, which included splendid performances by Tom McDowell in the lead and Ollie Spink as the evil Jafar. Wilberforce’s 101 Dalmatians, directed by Florence Colbeck and Chloe Asquith, was notable for its frantic comedy and bizarre moments. Ben Wilkinson stole the show as Cruella and won the Best Actor prize. Gruggen staged a serious take on Beauty and the Beast, directed by Ellie Cooper and team. It included live music and stand-out performances by Harry Chacksfield as Maurice, Freddie Griggs as D’Arque, and Freya Stewart and Max Lee as the leads. Festival judges Ursula Clark, the mother of OPs, and puppeteer Terry Tooby, declared Gruggen House as winners of this year’s House Drama Trophy. During the evening Rob hosted a fascinating Q & A session with Rory and Steve, where they shared their insights into playing rugby at the top level and the challenges, opportunities and successes they have encountered along the way. David Byas, Director of Sport, Pocklington School said: “Rory, Steve and Rob gave us inspiring insights into the world of rugby and what it is like to play for and lead teams at the very top level of international sport. Their thoughts fitted perfectly with how we approach sport and mirrored so many of our values. They were an inspiration to listen to and our guests had a tremendously enjoyable evening.” 6
