U15 Rugby Team in final 16
The Pocklington
Award
Following consultation with staff and students,
we have updated the Pocklington Awards this
term, referencing the Awards at York, Lancaster
and Newcastle Universities which originally
influenced the design of the Pocklington Award.
The original Pocklington Award was launched in
2008 and is a graded certificate scheme of
recognition and reward for a student’s
participation in the co-curricular life of the school.
Since its launch, the Pocklington Award has
grown and developed, and has seen an increase
in numbers achieving the Award year on year.
Pocklington School U15 rugby team have
reached the final stages of the National Schools
Competition (formally the NatWest) North Group
as one of the final 16 teams in the Schools Cup
Vase Competition. This year's success has been a long journey,
literally, as every fixture has been away, so the
boys have seen all four corners of Yorkshire, from
Pontefract and in the last round Stockton on
Tees, where they beat Egglescliffe School 41-7.
Last year’s team also had a great run in this
competition, making it all the way to the final of
the Bowl competition, held at Sixways Stadium,
the home of Worcester Warriors. The U15s next challenge will be in the New Year,
when they play the Northern Group B final
against Worksop College, where a win will take
them through to the quarter finals of the Vase
Competition, as one of the last eight teams
nationally. We are all rooting for the team!

Mr Wareham, teacher in charge of rugby at
Pocklington School said: “The boys have done
exceedingly well so far and we are naturally
delighted that the legacy is being handed down,
from one team to another.”
Spotlight on Boarding
Michaelmas Term is always a big and busy one in
boarding and this one’s been no different! Our
new Junior Boys Housemistress, Nicola Bradshaw
has taken over the reins at Dolman House, ably
supported by a new resident tutor (tried and
tested OP cricketing legend), Charlie Lambert.
From action-packed weekend fun, sporting
triumphs to theatrical performances, it’s been
great to see our boarders, old and new, settling
in so well. Boarders really do get involved in all
aspects of school life and anyone who attended
the Autumn concert couldn’t have failed to be
impressed by Benjamin Zan’s debut solo on the
Erhu.
The year got off to a great start with a trip to
Flamingo Land and our adventures since then
have included swimming at Bridlington Spa, a
trip to Laser Quest, and exploring Dalby Forest.
Oh, and the occasional shopping trip. We are
continuing to trial giving boarders the option of
staying in over Exeats. These have been relaxing
weekends with a real community feel.
Our senior boarders are a real credit to the
School, particularly our Boarding Prefects, who
are really getting involved in moving Pocklington
Boarding forward.
