Lower School
It has been one of the busiest and longest terms on record for the Lower School and I am proud of how much we have been able to cram in . The First Years have adapted to their new routines remarkably quickly and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them this term . They have made great use of our newly refurbished Lower School Common Room and are currently on target to have achieved 10,000 merits by Christmas . What an achievement ! Our Second Years have stepped up as role models too , with over 11,000 merits . Key events have included the Bake Off , Lower School Symposiums , the many hockey and rugby fixtures , cross country , equestrian , chess , the music concerts and latterly the Christmas disco . They are all well deserving of a restful Christmas break !

What a term it ’ s been ! From success in hockey , rugby and cross country to an amazing performance of Much Ado About Nothing , there ' s been a lot going on ! It ' s been wonderful to see our new Third Year settle into Middle School and meet their parents in October ’ s Divisional Evening . I look forward to seeing them again in school at our next Come See Us At Work day and our first post-Covid in-person Parents ’ Evening , both in February . The Fourth Year pupils have confidently settled in , fully engaged with their GCSE courses . It has been splendid to witness their commitment to both the CCF and HPQ programmes . For the Fifth Year , the mocks that have loomed on the horizon are very much on the doorstep , and hopefully the pupils feel ready to do their best when they return in January . This is a period of choices for them and having had Sixth Form Information Evening and Sixth Form Taster Day , we will be talking to them individually about their choices ahead of making firm decisions next term . An exciting time for an outstanding year group .

Throughout the Michaelmas term , our Upper Sixth students have done a sterling job of balancing their academic and wider commitments . It has been great to see them continue to throw themselves into all that Pocklington has to offer . Most students have now completed their UCAS applications , or made progress with applications for apprenticeships , employment , Art Foundation courses or overseas universities . Many students have already started to receive offers !
Our Lower Sixth students have built upon their excellent start , and they continue to receive lots of positive feedback from staff regarding their approach to learning and involvement in the wider life of Pocklington School . They are enjoying the special atmosphere of being in the Sixth Form and they are rising to the challenges that higher level study and additional responsibility brings . In addition to their academic and enrichment courses , it has been great to see them making the most of the opportunities afforded through Community Action projects , the Symposium programme and a whole host of other co-curricular and super-curricular activities . Next term they will start to explore potential post-18 pathways !
