Talent in abundance at House Music Festival 2 0 2 0 S W I N N E R USE O H E C R O F R WILBE This year’s House Music Festival delighted audiences with a varied repertoire performed with gusto and expertise by our extremely talented pupils. The Sixth Form-led festival gives pupils the chance to select, direct and perform their own music to a highly expectant audience over two nights. Pupils from across the school work together as a House to present an instrumental item, a choral, a bonus item and a finale. Highlights – and there were many – included Hutton’s rendition of Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode;” Dolman’s “Set me as a Seal” by Bruce Tippette; Gruggen’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” originally recorded by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, and Wilberforce’s “Bring Him Home” from Les Misérables. Packed audiences were swept along by the fun of seeing the stage packed with students singing, dancing, delivering confident performances – and enjoying themselves, too! A clear demonstration of how hard work really does bring results. Wilberforce retained the House Music trophy and best individual item went to Hutton for their performance of “Johnny B. Goode.” An impressive 237 pupils participated in the festival, which was ably judged by visiting music teachers Ian Seddon and Dave Hughes. Photos by Mr James McDowell 3
