U13s Reach national Trampoline Finals Pocklington School’s Under 13 girls’ trampolining team has reached the finals of the National Schools Trampoline Championships, with team member Scarlett McMullen also qualifying as an individual. The team of Lucy Grewer (1st Year), Lucy Harrison-Little, Ally Law and Scarlett (all Second Year) qualified after finishing second in the Northern Zonal Finals in Huddersfield. Scarlett also finished second in the individual category – just 0.1 points behind the winner. They will now compete in the National Trampoline Finals in Newtownards, Northern Ireland, in March. Games teacher i/c trampolining, Jan Kilsby, said: “This is a fantastic achievement – all the girls in the team performed brilliant routines and held their nerve to qualify. Scarlett produced an excellent set routine which gained a very high score in her category. They’ve all done exceptionally well.” Show Jumpers qualify for County Championship Several members of the Pocklington School equestrian team will represent East Yorkshire in the National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA)’s show jumping County Championships in April. Harriet Hodge, another debut rider, won the overall 70 cm class and was selected as an individual to represent the county. Harriet rode two horses in the class, securing 4th overall place on her second pony. Our riders competed in the qualifier alongside schools from across Yorkshire, Co Durham, Cumbria and Northumberland at Northallerton Equestrian Centre, for the right to represent the county as a team and, in some cases, as individuals. In the 90cm class Harriet Thompson, Bea Nicholson, Mimi Jackson and Georgina Elliott went on to win their section, also qualifying for the County Championships. The day started with Emily O’Gram, Noah Marsh, Daisy Shepherd and Polly Raper – on her debut – being first into the arena in the 65cm jump height class. Daisy and Noah achieved 2nd and 4th place respectively. The quartet, minus Bea Nicholson, replicated their performance in the 1m class. Hattie Thompson and Emma Forsyth qualified as individual riders in the 90 cm and 1m class respectively. Narrow defeat ends U15 rugby team’s Schools Cup run Pocklington School U15 rugby team reached the quarter-final of the National Schools Cup Vase Competition, narrowly losing 5-7 to QEGS Penrith in a tense and exciting North Final. The two evenly-matched teams found it hard to score in a strong and blustery wind, despite putting each other under periods of sustained pressure. Ed Hasdell managed to cross the try line – and for the last ten minutes Pocklington were agonisingly close to scoring again but were held just short until the final whistle. Richard Wareham, Head Rugby Learner, Pocklington School, said: “It was a heroic game from both teams, with several players out on their feet from the sustained effort of 60 minutes’ hard physical play. “I am sure this game will go a long way to motivating those players who are eligible for next season to work hard on their fitness levels over the summer, ready for next season’s attempt. We must set the goal of reaching the North final again.” 6 He added: “It is a very encouraging that we are becoming more consistent in our skill level and the teams we produce in both 15 and 7-a-side. We are establishing ourselves as a leading rugby school.”
